Universal newborn hearing screening is the entry point for Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) systems. The effectiveness of a screening program depends upon validated and reliable technology that can be operated by a variety of personnel. Prior to the development of automated screening technology, implementation of newborn hearing screening programs was not feasible clinically or economically. Today, a key responsibility for institutions and stakeholders implementing sustainable newborn hearing screening programs is an understanding of the issues addressed in this educational session including:
the unique requirements for newborn hearing screening technology,
the advantages and limitations of screening methods identified as options in clinical guidelines and best practices documents
the essential factors that should be considered when selecting technology and establishing protocols for newborn hearing screening.
