This course is designed for the neonatal clinician to understand how involving the family in the everyday care of new-borns can have a positive impact on both the infant and the parents and lead to a family relationship that is strong, and leads to empowered and satisfied parents when leaving the NICU with their infant.
By the end of the course, the clinician will be able to:
- Understand how the degree to which parents are engaged in their baby’s care in the NICU will have an effect on that baby’s development
- Describe the attachment process between infants and their families
- Discuss the importance of early interaction between parents / mothers and infants to enhance the attachment process
- Describe the Parents Journey through the NICU experience and understand each of the individual aspects of this process
- Understand and apply the process of “active listening”
