This course is designed for the neonatal clinician to understand how the NICU environment can influence our fragile neonatal patients.
By the end of the course, the clinician will be able to:
- Understand the development of the sensory system of the fetus and preterm infant
- Understand the vulnerability of the preterm brain
- Describe the artificial environment of the NICU for the preterm infant
- Recognize the influences of the NICU environment to a “fetus outside the womb” in relation to:
– The impact of sound and light
– The importance of positive experiences in relation to handling, touch, taste and smell
– Evaluate the preterm infants response to stress and pain
NICU ENVIRONMENT & INFLUENCE
A very great help in understanding our preterm newborn babies..
Some very valuable info!
Very educational and great reminder for us NICU nurses that what we do with these tiny babies will impact their growing brain and impact their lives. Together, let us make a good impact. Remember… touching their skin or body is also touching their brain.
This course is great for learning
