This course is designed for the neonatal clinician to understand how the observation of new-borns assists in recognising signs of instability, pain and stress and sleep states and understand how this is an essential part of neuroprotection of vulnerable infants.

By the end of the course, the clinician will be able to:

  • Describe the Synactive Theory of Development
  • Describe the attachment process between infants and their families
  • Discuss the 5 different elements of the Synactive theory and their relationship the Neurodevelopment
  • Describe each of the subsystems and what can be observed in individual infants utilising this approach
  • Understand how the subsystems develop concurrently and interact with each other and the environment

    I enjoyed these courses. I am Acute SLT working in infants, neonates and PCCU and have done NIDCAP courses before and this was a lovely simple refresher.
    I like how the subsystems were covered as I find often neglected in peoples observations of babies. Go Inga!, Go Dr Als!
